Entertainment is whirlwind of surprises in 2009

The year 2009 brought entertainment shockers no one could have predicted. Many greats who graced the screen and sung on the mic were lost this decade, but perhaps the icon who could encompass all will stick out in our hearts the most. Passing away on June 25th, 2009, Michael Jackson’s death left a void in our musical repertoire, but also inspired others to reclaim his glorious career and keep on living his dream though his music.
Jackson, from Gary, Ind., started his career as a young boy in The Jackson 5. He quickly shined as the young star of the band and became a solo star. Having been in the spotlight most of his life, Jackson brought the international community joy through his insanely catchy tunes, out of this world dance moves and fashion, and heart warming ballads. Jackson truly was every man and his essence will live on for generations to come.
Among other greats who passed away this year were Ricardo Montalban, Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, Patrick Swayze and Brittany Murphy, just to name a few. When a celebrity passes away, one may argue that the general public cannot truly be saddened. After all, most of us didn’t know them personally. However, the impression made by the persona we did know, is now gone and is something to be missed. We may not have known them for who they really were, but we know what they produced for us on a wider scale and on a personal one. They will be missed.
For Latinos in arts and entertainment it was a big year. Latino band Wisin y Yandel received an MTV Music award nomination for best pop music video. Shakira is crazier than ever with her new debut album, “She Wolf” and Pee Wee is climbing the charts and ...
